listeningIn 2010, RBC and its branding agency created Arbie – an award-winning and compelling brand icon. An overwhelming number of requests for Arbie promotional items followed, the most popular being a plush figure toy. RBC reached out to SPP to help bring Arbie to life in a way that best represented the spirit of the character. Arbie needed to be recreated to exact specifications, using the highest-quality materials, by a socially responsible manufacturer and he was to have minimal packaging.
innovatingSPP met with several RBC brand and marketing executives to ensure every detail was considered. We partnered with a Canadian-based manufacturer that has worked on several high-profile toy projects, including the official figures for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. From draft mock-ups, to fabric swatches and sample packaging, no detail was overlooked during the development process.
delivering The result was the delivery of a 12” plush Arbie that was produced with the highest-quality materials and was packaged in an attractive retail manner. Arbie was a delight for RBC employees to both receive and hand out. Over 10,000 units have been delivered to both RBC employees and customers across Canada and around the world, and has lead to the expansion of Arbie’s use to several other complimentary products that reinforce RBC’s brand message.
SPP was a pleasure to work with in this dynamic, unknown territory. The Arbie plush toy continues to bring joy and laughter to all that receive him. Thank you for all of your guidance along the way and in delivering a superior exciting product on time.

listeningIn 1925, Caterpillar founders established a first-class engineering and manufacturing operation committed to quality, innovation, and customer value. To distribute their products they enlisted the support of Finning - now the largest Cat® dealer in the world. While distributing one of the top 100 global brands certainly helps their exposure, Finning needed some fresh new merchandise that would make a solid impact with their target audience – something unique, innovative, and above all useful.
innovatingSPP met with several Finning and Cat® brand and marketing folks, and solicited input from all other Canadian Caterpillar Dealers to ensure that nothing was missed. The feedback was clear: whatever we came up with had to represent the core Cat® brand values, and details matter – down to ensuring the paint colours on our products matched those of the real machines.
delivering The result was the Cat® Aqua Mouse. Designed to be user-friendly, attractive, and fun to use, the attention to detail led to the product becoming not just a promotional product, but also a successful retail item in the Dealer’s gift shops and online stores. Over 30,000 units have been delivered around the world to Caterpillar Dealers and their customers. Caterpillar’s Trademark Licensing Group even deemed the Aqua Mouse to be their top licensed product in 2008.
listeningFrom its support of soccer at the professional level, including Canada’s national teams and professional teams Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Montreal Impact, to supporting youth soccer programs across the country, no other bank in Canada is more committed to the country’s most-played sport than BMO. BMO approached APG to develop and produce a BMO-branded soccer ball that would be delivered to branches across Canada. The custom-designed balls would be given to over 950 sponsored youth soccer clubs nationwide and would reinforce BMO’s support of local teams.
innovatingSPP partnered with a premier soccer equipment manufacturer, Campea, to produce a youth-sized ball that would not only be of the utmost quality and construction, but would also be of high value. We scheduled production and delivery of the balls to ensure all of BMO’s marketing events were given priority. In addition, SPP helped develop a soccer ball carry-bag to compliment other soccer-related items we offer in the BMO program, including a soccer ball rain poncho and a soccer ball can holder.
delivering The result of the soccer ball program was the delivery of over 15,000 balls to BMO branches across Canada. The balls were distributed to youth soccer clubs across the country, helping reinforce BMO’s support of grassroots soccer in communities across the country.
listeningRocky View County is a million-acre municipality in Calgary, AB. Seeking a new, non-standard solution for its long service award (5-30 years), Rocky View County tasked APG with finding a solution that would embody the landscape and spirit of the County, while emphasizing the value associated with reaching incremental service milestones. It was to stand on its own as an 'objet d'art', and be coveted and retained by the employees.
innovatingWe wanted to ensure receipt of a 5-year award would be significant and appealing, but subsequent milestones would be incrementally more fulfilling. We used different materials for each milestone - that varied in height and perceived value - while visually symbolizing layers that reflect both the County's landscape and an individual's career. A 'completed' (30-year) award measures 10” tall and resembles a true work of art.
delivering The completed pieces were presented by the CEO at an off-site awards banquet to much celebration. Anecdotal responses were overwhelmingly positive, and any employee who has received a new award has it proudly displayed. For any Rocky View County employee, earning a service award now means receiving a handcrafted and meaningful piece of art that will only appreciate in value.
